چکیده

Binary mixtures of organic solvents with limited miscibility are investigated by a two parameter equation which reliably describes the polarity of mixtures as a function of their composition. A relation is found between limited miscibility and critical change of solvent structure. The polarity of liquid mixtures of organic solvents has been quantitatively investigated in preceding papers I-6). It was shown that the polarity of a mixture defined by empirical polarity scales, e.g. the ET(30) scale of Dimroth and Reichardt 7) , is quantitatively described by the two parameter equation (1). ET(30) in (1) is the ET(30) value of the mixture obtained by ET(30) = ED l ln (cp/c* + 1) + EG(30) (1) ET(30) = 28590[kcal*nm]/Xmax (2) use of the solvatochromism of dye 1 and eq. (2). cp in eq. (1) is the molar

Miscibility of ternary mixtures of phospholipids and cholesterol in monolayers, and application to bilayer systems.

We investigate miscibility transitions of two different ternary lipid mixtures, DOPC/DPPC/Chol and POPC/PSM/Chol. In vesicles, both of these mixtures of an unsaturated lipid, a saturated lipid, and cholesterol form micron-scale domains of immiscible liquid phases for only a limited range of compositions. In contrast, in monolayers, both of these mixtures produce two distinct regions of immiscib...

Polymer-polymer miscibility

The theoretical and practical aspects of polymer-polymer miscibility in the solid amorphous state are reviewed. The polymers include homopolymers and both random and block copolymers. Although present theoretical treatments of polymer-polymer miscibility all contain the random mixing hypothesis and are thus not applicable to mixtures that involve specific interactions between the components, mo...

Interaction and micellar behavior of aqueous mixtures of surface active ionic liquid and cationic surfactant: experimental and theoretical studies

The interaction between an ionic liquid (1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide or IL) and cationic surfactant (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)) in aqueous solution has been investigated at various mole fractions and temperature 30 ˚C using experimental and theoretical methods. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of pure components and their binary mixtures, mixed micellar compositi...

Phase Behavior of Polylactides in Solvent-Nonsolvent Mixtures

Isothermal phase diagrams for the semicrystalline poly-L-lactide (PLLA) and the amorphous poly-DL-lactide (PDLLA) in combination with several solvent-nonsolvent combinations (dioxane/water, dioxane/methanol, chloroform/methanol, and NMP/water) have been determined. The locations of the liquid-liquid miscibility gap, the solid-liquid miscibility gap and the vitrification boundary in the isotherm...

Separation of Aromatic and Alcoholic Mixtures using Novel MWCNT-Silica Gel Nanocomposite as an Adsorbent in Gas Chromatography

The separations of alcohols with hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts, and the separation of aromatic mixtures, are extremely important processes in gas and petroleum industries. Choosing an adsorbent for performing this separation is the most important part of the process. Silica gel is used as an adsorbent is various techniques such as pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and gas and liquid chromatog...
